A Day of Rejuvenation in the Desert: Jackrabbit Spa at JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn

Tucked into the Sonoran Desert at the foot of Camelback Mountain lies one of Arizona’s most storied resorts: the JW Marriott Scottsdale Camelback Inn Resort & Spa. With its adobe-casitas, lush desert gardens, and rich history (dating back to 1936), the property is built for those seeking both luxury and a sense of timeless serenity.

Recently we spent a full afternoon at the Jackrabbit Spa, and here’s how the escape went — and why it’s a gem for anyone looking for refined, restorative downtime.

The Setting: Small, Private & Well-Appointed

The Jackrabbit Spa is boutique in scale, which is part of its charm. There are 10 private casita spa suites, each offering a level of privacy and tranquility that larger spas sometimes miss. During my visit, the treatment rooms were in separate casitas, each with its own restroom. It makes for a seamless, intimate experience — you don’t feel like you’re moving through a crowded spa but rather stepping into your own retreat.

The Treatments: A Perfect Pairing of Indulgence & Skill

I chose the summer special: a light scrub followed by a rich oil treatment, finished with a scalp massage. The scrub was gentle yet effective — just enough to exfoliate without stripping. The oil treatment that followed felt luxurious; it nourished and soothed, and the transition to a scalp massage was divine.

Then came the massage by Betsy. Her firm pressure was exactly what I needed. She worked methodically, hitting all the right spots, helping to unknot tension without being overbearing. Very impressive.

Amenities: Pools, Cold Plunge & Loungers

After the treatments, it was time to make the most of the spa and resort amenities.

There is a cold plunge at 42°F — bracing, yes, but such a reset for the body after warm treatments and oil.

A small outdoor spa pool and jet features make lounging a pleasure. The loungers are comfortable and spaced enough to feel private.

The poolside waiter service from the restaurant (Hoppin’ Jacks, etc.) means you never have to leave your spot for a drink or snack — very deluxe.

Access to the hotel’s adult-pool area is included, with plush loungers, which is especially nice if you’re seeking quiet over bustle.

Extras: Culinary & Beverage Highlights

After all that pampering, what better than frozen lemonade cocktails to hit the sweet, bright spot between treatments and pool time? Loved those. Also, the shrimp salad I had poolside was delicious — fresh, light, satisfying without feeling heavy. Balance is everything.

Resort Features & Context

To put the spa experience in perspective: this isn’t just a spa day, but a resort day.

The resort sits on 125 acres, has 453 casitas & suites, many with outdoor patios and fine desert views.

The Jackrabbit Pool Experience is a highlight: updated pools (main pool, adult-only pool, children’s pool), good poolside dining, beautiful views, great service.

The resort is currently undergoing a major spa transformation (budgeted at around $24 million, launching early 2026). But even during this phase, Jackrabbit Spa remains open to resort guests.

The Verdict

If you’re looking for a day of true rest, Jackrabbit delivers. It combines the intimacy of a boutique spa (private casitas, attentive service) with resort-scale amenities that allow you to stretch the day into a full retreat — pool lounging, refreshing treats, cold plunge, and more.

For anyone considering it:

Ask for Betsy (if she’s available) for firm, excellent massage work.

Try the summer scrub + oil + scalp treatment combo — it balances exfoliation, moisture, and relaxation.

Bring a swimsuit, plan to hang by the pool; service is strong enough that you can ease into the afternoon without needing to move.
